Effingham, Illinois 62401

This non-denominational City cemetery is the final resting place of many fascinating figures from Effingham's past. Ada Kepley, the first woman law graduate in the United States, was an ardent advocate of women's rights and a friend of Susan B. Anthony. Another recognized name is Col. John J. Funkhouser, a Civil War veteran, who was offered the office of Secretary of War by President Grant, but he declined and became the first mayor of Effingham. There are several more recognized names throughout history located here.
